AHCCCS Direct Care Compliance Requirements

AHCCCS has a number of requirements for the care workers (DCWs) who provide direct care services to Arizona Long Term Care System members that live in their homes. They include: All agencies listed under AHCCCS directed care services should only pick direct care workers who have completed and passed the mandatory competency tests with three months (90 days) of hire. There are some DCW exempted from this rule such as Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nurse Aides DCWs can only train and test in an Approved Training and Testing Center. These centers include HCCCS registered agencies, private vocational programs and educational institutions (such as colleges and universities) that are approved for training and testing. The training and testing agency cannot charge an employee for the training services unless the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education grants it a license. The agencies cannot ask individuals to pay upfront and have the money reimbursed after the training period is over. Moreover, the agencies cannot charge the trainees for the release of their results. The agencies are further forbidden from training and testing the general public for free, nor can they train members of the public that are not employed by a DCW even if they are willing to pay for the training.
